How I Find the Best Hotels

How I Find the Best Hotels Every Time

One of my favorite parts of planning a trip is finding the perfect place to stay. For me, a hotel is much more than a place to sleep. It becomes part of the experience. The right property can elevate an entire vacation, while the wrong one can leave you wishing you had spent a little more time researching before clicking “Book Now.”

Over the years, I’ve developed a simple process that helps me consistently find hotels that fit my travel style. Whether I’m planning a relaxing beach escape, a city adventure, or a weekend getaway, these are the things I always look for before making a reservation.

Location Comes First

A beautiful hotel isn’t very enjoyable if it’s miles away from everything you want to see. I always start by looking at the location before I even look at the rooms. I want to be close to the attractions, restaurants, shopping, or neighborhoods I plan to explore.

Sometimes spending a little more for a better location actually saves money on transportation while giving me more time to enjoy the destination.

Read the Reviews Carefully

Guest reviews can tell you a lot, but I don’t focus only on the overall rating. I pay close attention to recent reviews because they reflect the current guest experience. If several travelers mention exceptional service, spotless rooms, or an outstanding location, that’s usually a great sign. Likewise, repeated complaints about cleanliness, noise, or maintenance are worth paying attention to.

Study the Photos

Professional hotel photos are designed to showcase the property in its best light, but they don’t always tell the whole story. I like comparing the official images with photos shared by recent guests. This gives me a more realistic idea of what to expect and often reveals details that promotional photos don’t show.

Think Beyond the Room

A hotel experience includes much more than the bedroom itself. I consider everything the property offers, from dining options and outdoor spaces to fitness centers, pools, spas, lounges, and concierge services. Sometimes it’s these little extras that make a stay memorable.

If I know I’ll be spending time relaxing at the property, those amenities become even more important.

Match the Hotel to the Trip

Every vacation has a different purpose, and the hotel should reflect that. For a romantic getaway, I might look for a boutique property with beautiful design and intimate spaces. For a city vacation, I usually prioritize walkability and convenience. If I’m traveling with family or friends, larger rooms and shared gathering spaces become more valuable.

There isn’t one perfect hotel for every trip. The best choice is the one that fits the experience you’re hoping to create.

Don’t Overlook Safety

Feeling comfortable is just as important as feeling pampered. Before booking, I spend a few minutes researching the neighborhood, especially if it’s somewhere I’ve never visited before. A great location should also be one where I feel comfortable walking during the day or evening.

Exceptional Service Makes All the Difference

I’ve stayed in beautiful hotels where the service was forgettable, and I’ve stayed in modest boutique hotels where the staff made the experience absolutely unforgettable. Friendly employees, knowledgeable concierge teams, and people who genuinely enjoy helping guests can transform an ordinary stay into something truly special.

Hospitality is one of those things that can’t always be measured by stars or price.

Compare Value, Not Just Price

The least expensive hotel isn’t always the best deal, and the most expensive isn’t automatically the best experience. I compare what I’m actually getting for the price, including location, amenities, breakfast, parking, resort fees, and overall guest satisfaction.

Sometimes paying a little more delivers significantly greater value.

Trust Your Instincts

After researching hotels for countless trips, I’ve learned to trust my instincts. If something doesn’t feel quite right, whether it’s inconsistent reviews, outdated photos, or unclear information, I keep looking. There are usually plenty of wonderful options, and it’s worth taking a little extra time to find the one that feels right.

My Final Thought

Finding the right hotel isn’t about booking the most luxurious property or spending the most money. It’s about choosing a place that complements your destination, supports the kind of trip you want to have, and allows you to fully enjoy every moment away.

Some of my favorite travel memories have started with opening the door to an incredible hotel room, looking out the window, and realizing I had found the perfect place to call home for the next few days.

I hope these tips help you discover accommodations you’ll love as much as I do. Happy travels, and here’s to finding your next unforgettable stay.
